MISSION: Sunset Promotions produces inventive experiences that incubate sustainable artistic communities. Ours is an unadulterated independent perspective, which embodies the progressive ideals of our San Francisco home. A 15-year old boutique success story, Sunset tirelessly promotes quality niche music, and art through concerts, parties, exhibitions and festivals. We are committed to building progressive urban events in a manner that is environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable.
HISTORY: Sunset Promotions was originally founded in 1997 by John Miles and Robbie Kowal to bring New Orleans musicians to San Francisco. Over the years, that mission expanded to funk, soul, hip hop, world music, djs and eventually the whole of dance-music culture as we now know it. We have also lent our sweat and blood to a variety of artistic and social causes over the years and combined with our concerts have come to embody San Francisco’s progressive, creative, and artistic soul.
Some of the magic we have helped to conjure are events like Sea of Dreams NYE, Ghost Ship Halloween, All Shook Down Music Festival, SF Funk Fest, North Beach Jazz Fest, SF Mardi Gras Ball, Freqo de Mayo, Icebreakers Ball, Black Valentines, and the Silent Frisco series of Silent Disco events around the United States. We are also responsible for the production of more than a thousand other club shows in the Bay Area and beyond and founded the Mojito Café in North Beach.
Among the artists with whom we have been honored to work are James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Carlos Santana, Janelle Monae, Thievery Corporation, Bassnectar, Rusko, Trentemoller, Grupo Fantasma, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Kinky, Rebirth Brass Band, Z-Trip, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Jurassic 5, Blackalicious, Dr John, Brian Setzer, The Blind Boys of Alabama, the Headhunters, DJ Icey, Tipper, Roni Size, LTJ Bukem, Chase & Status, Planet of the Drums and so many more.
